In the foreground are Jon's tools (bandsaws, etc.) burnt and turned over. As well as all his big tools and small hand tools, Jon also lost his paints, stains and finishes, all his sketches and photos, his collection of dried prepped wood ready to be turned into art, and all the finished sculptures he's created over the last year that were just about to be sent out to the galleries.

We have heard that the fire may have been caused by heavy wet snow on the electrical line that pulled the electrical line out of the exterior wall and then the electricity arced and grounded into the studio.

Jon's website is here.

To All Artists and Patrons of the Arts: [Jan. 20th, 2010|02:41 pm]
Jon Brooks has lost his entire studio to a raging fire in the early hours of the morning on Monday, January 18th, 2010.

All of Jon's tools, his 40 year collection of special wood, his entire studio and it's contents were destroyed. It is every artist's fear and worst nightmare to have this kind of disaster happen.

In this hour of need, any contribution will be helpful for the reconstruction of a new studio. We are sending this personal plea to all who may be able to help out. Jon will rebuild and carry on; it is his life's mission to do so. But in this hard economy he will need all the support he can receive.

Thanks So Much,
Jon's Friends and Family

Collaborations with Nature & Art - Jun 28, 2010 - Jul 02, 2010
Create functional and sculptural objects from naturally formed and low-impact harvested wood. The opening question is: Who are we in relation to the trees that surround us? How can we thoughtfully and creatively collaborate with nature? We use milled lumber with traditional and inventive woodworking techniques, creating furniture and objects with artistic expression.
